Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
Now that Season 1 of the popular program reaching its finale—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.
On the Incredible Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both.
“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.
A Pressing Query: Has the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… in a way.
“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.
“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?
“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
