Alina Habba has left her position as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a legal ruling that challenged her right to hold the office.
Attorney General's Statement
The head of the Justice Department, the Attorney General, accepted the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the judicial decision made it "untenable" for Habba to perform her duties.
"Do not interpret compliance for surrender," she wrote. "This battle will now reach across the country."

The departure comes a week after a federal appellate panel found that she had been unlawfully serving as the federal prosecutor. This ruling is likely to affect many legal proceedings in New Jersey.
The judicial panel said that a temporary posting that did not receive Senate approval breached the statute on vacant positions.

It was also stated that the former prosecutor will remain at the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. They intend to seek further review of the disqualification, in the hope of achieving a overturned decision.
Writing online, Bondi contended that the court "cannot be permitted to second-guess the President's choice of lawyers entrusted with carrying out the fundamental role of the presidency of criminal prosecution."
