The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

ā€œThere's this level of irony that we are trapped in,ā€ said Cappa. ā€œIt's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.ā€

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
