Stupidity and Regal Arrogance Ruined Andrew, and It Could Continue Yet

The saga started with a single photograph, arguably the most consequential ever taken of a royal family member.

There stood the Duke of York, with his arm around a female youth, while another individual beamed suggestively in the background.

Without that image, taken at a gathering in 2001, few would have credited the claims of a young woman who said she was moved across the ocean and compelled to have brief relations with a prince of the royal bloodline?

An odd, telling move by someone who had overtly claimed to have never known about her, claimed he could never have had sex with her, and yet handed over millions of family funds to avert a long-delayed court action.

Over a Decade of Disgrace

Against this backdrop, conversations of the royal family acting decisively to cut Andrew off are inaccurate. This controversy has endured for the largest portion of 15 years since that photograph, and another snapshot of Andrew ambling congenially with a convicted sex offender surfaced.

  • Self-importance: For what duration did his family members, possibly even his mother and father, realize that Andrew was so presumptuous?
  • Questionable Associations: They must have known, if his aides and the law enforcement were fulfilling their roles, that he had some extremely unsavory friends given he unabashedly welcomed them to estates.
  • Fiscal Irresponsibility: If the family did not know about his sexual proclivities, they certainly knew about his wastefulness with state resources.

Journeys were listed in public records: helicopter travel from the estate to a country club and back again in time for midday meal, chartered planes instead of regular transport, all for the convenience of "the frequent flyer".

World of Deference

Additionally the entitlement which demanded respect when he appeared in a room or the profound awareness about his royal titles used on his correspondence in messages to his personal acquaintances.

He avoided accountability while his matriarch, who inexplicably spoiled him, was still living. The sovereign did at least strip him of official roles and honorary colonelcies in the consequence of his ill-fated and, as revealed, deceptive media appearance six years ago.

Recent Developments

Just in the last fortnight that events progressed rapidly, following the issuance of accounts giving more grim information of his actions and that of his associates.

Additional revelations have again highlighted Andrew's assumption that he could avoid being untruthful about his interaction with a convicted criminal.

Society (and the media) were far more perceptive of the royals. There was nobody of any importance to speak up for him, a result of all those years of presumption.

Monarchical Concerns

The wiser family members recognized that. The key objective is to pass on the crown, if not as heretofore at least whole and untarnished.

Over time the last 190 years trying to overcome the image of past sovereigns, showing they are useful, responsible and responsive to their people.

Andrew was putting all that in peril in an time when submission and discretion is no longer enough.

Consequences

Finally, the well-known hesitant sovereign was prodded additional. There was no alternative. The palace had relinquished authority of the narrative.

Presently the loss of honorifics and the continued and life-long social disgrace that will afflict Andrew the most.

  • Downgrading: Lowered to just a commoner
  • Prior Instance: The first royal to lose his titles in modern times
  • Naval Career: Especially hurtful given his service in the Falklands war

He is still a royal advisor, theoretically able to stand in for the sovereign, and he is still eighth in line to the crown, but none of these will truly happen.

Future Prospects

Do individuals he comes across still defer to him? Will they still make mistakes and call him Sir? Might they say Mr,

Of course, he is not withdrawing to an ordinary town, but to the monarchy's extensive property at a monarchical property.

There, he will be furnished by the sovereign with one of the estate properties and given some type of personal stipend.

This differs from his prior accommodation, where he paid a nominal rent for more than 20 years, and the area is a bit distant, but even so it may not be far enough.

Unresolved Issues

Matters remain unresolved. There are still files in the possession of US Congress to be revealed.

  • Political Pressure: Could parliament demand more
  • Fiscal Review: Or examine the improper use of state resources
  • Criminal Investigation: There may even be a law enforcement inquiry into his behavior

Maybe for the present the harm to the monarchy to the crown is restricted. The statement from the palace was evidently that the removal of honorifics was what the king, and notably other senior monarchical figures, wanted.

Changed Stance

An end to illusion that Andrew was making the choice himself. And, significantly, the brief statement showed evidently that the institution were aligning with the accuser's account of occurrences.

Additionally, for the first time they ultimately showed concern for the affected individuals: "The censures are deemed necessary, despite the fact that he maintains his innocence of the accusations against him."

Finally it is arrogance, selfishness and indolence that will undermine the monarchy. In his stupidity, self-gratification and corruption, Andrew gives the impression never to have grasped that truth.
