England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship journey at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they attain the expected passage for a competition staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an Three Lions match since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to host the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The English side are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean starting the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The tournament was launched at an gathering in a London landmark on the previous evening. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the location by around fifty activists, who called for Israel to be expelled from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were held up with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The first match of the European Championship will be played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will include Wales if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for European club finals from next season, will appeal to families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through that route.

Locations and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“This will be a championship for the fans and a festival of everything we cherish about the game – its fervor and capacity to unite individuals.”

More than three million admissions, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to attendees.
