Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
