Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key changes:

  • Each team has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
