Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.

ā€œI'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,ā€ Slot stated.

ā€œIt would be nice to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.ā€

He continued, ā€œI am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.ā€

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

ā€œWe communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.ā€

He added, ā€œIn the normal discussions I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.ā€

Familiar Issues and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

ā€œI haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,ā€ Jones said.

ā€œIt is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.ā€

He continued, ā€œIt's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.ā€

ā€œIn a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with results so bad.ā€

He concluded, ā€œBut we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.ā€

ā€œWe’re going to try to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.ā€

ā€œBut right now, things are bad and it needs to change.ā€
